Overview

8bytes wanted to develop a gamified social platform that leverages blockchain, NFTs, and AI to drive user engagement and community growth. By merging social interaction, rewards, and digital assets, we created a dynamic ecosystem that incentivizes participation and fosters a strong user community.

Collaboration Timeline

This engagement ran as staff augmentation — our team embedded with 8bytes and shipped alongside them. Here is how the collaboration unfolded, from the first request through to delivery.

  1. Urgent Twitter/X API 2.0 integration for engagement farming

    8bytes partners with Enlivy SRL to enhance their WordPress site by integrating a sophisticated points reward system using the GamiPress plugin. The project aims to leverage the Twitter X API 2.0, enabling users to earn points for specific actions taken on Twitter, such as liking, retweeting, and commenting on posts containing the hashtag $DROIDS. This feature is designed to increase user engagement and provide a seamless integration with Twitter.

    Key Project Requirements

    I. Twitter Integration

    • Users log in using their Twitter credentials.
    • The system tracks specific Twitter interactions, awarding points for actions such as likes, retweets, and comments.
    • The integration handles a large user base, potentially scaling up to 300,000 users.

    II. Points System

    • Points are awarded based on interactions with posts containing $DROIDS.
    • The system differentiates between interactions on 8bytes' posts and other users' posts.

    III. Leaderboard and User Dashboard

    • A leaderboard displays the top 10 users based on points accumulated.
    • A user dashboard shows individual points and tracks progress.

    Technical Implementation

    Enlivy SRL proposes the following technical solutions to meet these requirements:

    I. GamiPress Installation and Customization

    • GamiPress is installed and configured on the client's WordPress site.
    • A custom extension is developed to track points based on Twitter actions, ensuring accurate point awarding and preventing system exploitation.

    II. Social Authentication Integration

    • A social authentication plugin is integrated, allowing users to log in using their Twitter accounts.
    • Custom code is implemented to gather additional user data and ensure accurate point allocation.

    III. Custom Plugin Development

    • A custom plugin is created to monitor Twitter activity every 5 minutes. This plugin is responsible for awarding points based on predefined actions, ensuring system integrity by preventing users from gaming the system (e.g., by liking, unliking, and re-liking posts).

  2. Agreed upon scope of work

    We're created the scope of work, in less than 2 hours after the client has been contacted.

    • Install GamiPress on your website.
    • Create a Custom GamiPress Extension, which can track points, from external actions done through twitter.
    • Install a Social Authentication Plugin, to allow users to register & login with twitter to your website, and add custom code, through actions & filters, to get more information about the user, in order to ensure point 4 from the scope of work is done correctly.
    • Create a Custom Plugin, that tracks the twitter activity every 5 minutes, and awards points for the users that have done the custom award actions; the points awarded cannot be updated retroactively, and the system will ensure users cannot cheat the system, by doing a like, waiting 5 minutes, unlike, and then 5 minute later, like again. ( but, this estimate will not account for substracting points, once awarded for the action, if it was undone )

    Custom Award Actions

    The system needs to account for users' interactions with posts that contain $DROIDS. Additionally, users are rewarded 50 points for tweeting posts that contain $DROIDS, for up to 3 posts per user per day. Once retrieved, users' actions must be rewarded with a number of points on our platform, as following:

    Interactions on OUR posts only (@outcastdroids):

    • Like - 100 points
    • RT - 150 points
    • QRT - 200 points (must also contain $DROIDS)
    • Comment - 150 points (must also contain $DROIDS)

    Interactions on other users' posts containing $DROIDS:

    • Like - 10 points
    • RT - 15 points
    • QRT - 20 points (must also contain $DROIDS)
    • Comment - 15 points (must also contain $DROIDS)

  3. Development Day 1, started right away

    The client was unable to provide Twitter API credentials at the beginning of the project, only the next day, so, Robert has started development on everything that did not require the Twitter API key.

    Created the baseline outcastdroids plugin

    • Created the custom database tables, in order to store all the information, required for awarding points.
    • Created PHP constants, for baseline details, such as the core twitter account, and the desired $cashtag
    • Added the base of a Twitter API PHP SDK, to serve as a starting point
    • Created the Boilerplate for the Gamipress Integration, in order for the client, to be able to create the award events, himself.

  4. Client misunderstood the Twitter API Pricing

    A critical project juncture emerged when a significant discrepancy between the client's understanding of Twitter API capabilities and the project's actual requirements came to light. Initially, the client had provided credentials for the Twitter Pro API, assuming it would suffice for the platform's functionalities.

    However, our assessment revealed that the project necessitated the far more robust Twitter Enterprise API. This error in API selection had profound implications for the project timeline and budget, as the Pro API, priced at $5,000 per month, lacked the essential features required for the platform, compared to the Enterprise API's $42,000 monthly cost.

    The client had initially assumed that the $5,000 per month Pro API would be sufficient. This unexpected budgetary implication prompted significant concern.

    To mitigate the financial burden, the client explored alternative approaches, such as substituting the dollar sign with a hashtag or implementing a post-retrieval filtering mechanism to eliminate irrelevant tweets. However, both options presented potential drawbacks. The hashtag approach raised concerns regarding perceived platform differentiation, while the filtering method introduced uncertainties related to API call volume and data accuracy.

    To address these challenges and identify a viable solution, Enlivy and the client scheduled a collaborative meeting to brainstorm and develop a strategy that would align with the project objectives while adhering to the constraints of the Pro API.

  5. Zoom Meeting

    We've been in a zoom meeting, exploring options, the client decided that it's very important to use the $cashtag identifier, and didn't want to use the hashtag, no matter what; this initial solution was recommended by a team member, but, he didn't like it at all.

    Recommend solution : parse the feed of every logged in user, every hour, and determine eligible posts for rewards, instead of using the global twitter, tweet search API, we query every logged in profile, every hour, taking into account, we need to award points for activity, up to 72 hours before logging in initially on the website, and after that, run the twitter query to get individual user tweets in an optimal fashion, to avoid getting the same tweet twice ( optimize credits usage )

  6. Agreed upon viable solution, to implement

    Recommended Solution:

    • Hourly User Feed Parsing: Parse the feed of every logged-in user every hour to identify eligible posts for rewards.
    • Retroactive Point Allocation: Award points for user activity up to 72 hours prior to initial website registration.
    • Optimized Twitter Query: Implement targeted Twitter queries for individual user tweets after the initial 72-hour period to avoid duplicate data and optimize credit usage.

  7. Developed Solana Authentication System & User Points Multiplier Bonus

    Authentication System:

    • Created an authentication system using the Solana blockchain.
    • Users can link their Solana wallet to their account for secure and decentralized verification.

    NFT Multiplier System:

    • Implemented a mechanism to check wallet balances for NFTs every 2 hours.
    • Multipliers are activated based on NFT ownership.
    • Automated validation of NFT ownership and application of multipliers.

    Admin Panel:

    • Added admin panel functionality to manually adjust user multipliers.
    • Provides administrators with control over user reward settings.

    Multipliers

    • 3x points for holding an iCrate.
    • 5x points for purchasing the NFT presale.
    • 10x points for holding both an iCrate and a presale NFT.

    Subber

    • 1.25x for holding a Freakz or 1 Rare or 3 Classic NFTs.
    • 1.5x for holding 2 Rare or 6 Classic NFTs.
    • 2x for holding 1 Legendary or 3 Rare or 10 Classic NFTs.

    Stacking Rules

    • Allowed stacking between Droids and Subber NFTs for increased rewards.
    • Stacking within multiple Subber NFT combinations is not permitted.

    The multiplier was awarded, on any GamiPress point award events, based on the user wallet holdings.

  10. Keeping things flowing 🌊

    • User restrictions were implemented for accounts with 50+ followers and older than 30 days, to prevent bots from registering, as much as possible.
    • Identified and resolved API rate limit issues, while also configuring Cloudflare for DDoS protection upon receiving access. Ongoing communication ensured the user was updated on progress and solutions for additional reported issues.
    • Tweets sync delayed to every 24 hours instead
    • Tweets Likes sync delayed to every 48 hours instead
    • Client has purchased more twitter API credits.

  11. Interface and Multipliers Enhancement

    User Interface Upgrades:

    • Upgraded the user experience by implementing square buttons within the wallet interface, promoting intuitive navigation.
    • Repositioned the redeem coupon button to the right side for enhanced accessibility and usability.

    Multiplier System Integration:

    • Established a filter dedicated to bulk awards based on user multipliers, allowing the system to efficiently distribute points based on user engagement.
    • Developed a live-preview logging system, monitoring batch executions with a size of 100 users to ensure accurate and timely rewards distribution.

    Behind the Scenes Development:

    • Reset all user points and implemented a revamped method for point calculation to facilitate the new point system.
    • Established a new approach for calculating Twitter follower multipliers and rectified a specific user's excessively high multiplier.

    At this moment, the website had 27,725 registered users, and more coming in, especially bots, we've been using the Twitter API key, to validate the accounts before registering them, by checking the follower count & registration.

  13. Enhanced Twitter Verification Mechanism & Multiple API Keys

    Twitter Verification System:

    • Implemented a system utilizing multiple, rotating Twitter apps for user registration verification, ensuring a robust process during high traffic periods.
    • Established a fallback mechanism to automatically switch to alternative apps if one encounters limitations, guaranteeing uninterrupted verification.

    Addressing Login Issues and Enhancements:

    • Tackled reported login issues stemming from high volumes of failed attempts by cycling through multiple Twitter apps to circumvent rate limiting.
    • Resolved a point awarding issue in the Gamipress code, restoring functionality for users.
    • Successfully implemented a solution to prevent login disruptions caused by Twitter rate limiting.
    • Explored further improvements and potential future endeavors for the client's platform through collaborative discussions.

    Rotating Twitter Apps for Registration Verification

    • Implemented a system for cycling through multiple Twitter apps for registration verification.
    • Each app is used to verify follower count and account age.
    • If one app fails, the system attempts verification with the next available app.
    • Up to three apps can be cycled through if necessary to complete verification.
    • Multiple credentials storage is implemented for security.
    • The system is currently limited to registration verification checks but can be expanded in the future.

  14. 🚀 32,744 registered users

    The client was feeling like, the project was loosing momentun, because he has gained only 435 additional followers today.

    The client looked for getting more elements to the project, specifically something in the Tap2Earn space, which was getting momentun on Telegram apps.

    The application was also tracking all the user tweeting constantly, which proved to be very expensive in terms of $ spent on the Twitter API; an hard limit on how many points a user could earn daily has been set in place ( after users have an earned a specific amount of points, no more daily checks on their tweets would've been done ).

  15. Creating the Flappy $DROIDS Game

    User Registration & Play Flow

    • Connect by using a Telegram APP, where the user pressed a button to start the game
    • The user is automatically logged in, when using the game through the telegram interface, ready to play.
    • The game leverages the GamiFi concept, allowing players to earn $DROIDS tokens through gameplay.
    • Planned a referral system where players can acquire additional tokens by sharing the game with friends.
    • Promotion of the $DROIDS NFT & iCrates through the game, ocasionally at the end screen, after the user death.

    Implemented a dynamic points multiplier system based on player progress. Multiplier increases as the player surpasses specific point thresholds:

    • Past 10 points: +2 multiplier
    • Past 20 points: +5 multiplier
    • Past 50 points: +10 multiplier
    • Past 200 points: +20 multiplier
    • Past 500 points: +25 multiplier
    • Past 1000 points: +50 multiplier
    • Past 2000 points: +75 multiplier
    • Past 3000 points: +100 multiplier
    • Past 5000 points: +200 multiplier

    Coupon generation, on farm website, through API

    • Implemented a system for generating redeemable coupons in the Flappy Droids game (flappy.outcastdroids.ai).
    • Users can generate coupon codes that can be redeemed on the Outcast Droids farm (farm.outcastdroids.ai).
    • Coupon value is based on the user's available points in the Flappy Droids game.
    • Points remain on the user's Flappy Droids account after generating a coupon.
    • Users can only generate one coupon at a time, preventing multiple coupon creation for the same points.
    • A "redeemable amount" is displayed alongside the user's total score, indicating the points available for coupon generation.
    • Multipliers are awarded upon coupon redemption on the Outcast Droids farm.
